Weighted Random Picker

Pick with Custom Odds

Give each option a custom weight, check the calculated chances and then run the draw. The percentage preview makes it easy to see what your weights actually mean.

Quick Setup

Enter each option with a positive weight, review the chances, then pick.

How to Use It

  1. 1. Add the options

Add the options you want in the draw and give each one a positive weight.

  2. 2. Set the weights

Remember that weights are relative, not percentages. A 1, 2, 3 setup means the third option has three times the chance of the first.

  3. 3. Pick the result

Check the percentages before you pick, then run the draw once the odds look right.

Useful Features

Custom odds

Control how likely each option is by changing its weight.

Whole numbers or decimals

Use whole numbers or decimals for the weight values.

Chance preview

See the calculated percentage for each option before the draw.

Instant result

Use weighted selection without waiting for a wheel animation.

When to Use It

Game tables

Make common outcomes more likely than rare ones.

Controlled mixes

Create a mix where common outcomes should appear more often than rare ones.

Task allocation

Give higher-priority or higher-capacity options a larger share.

Creative generators

Create rarity systems for prompts, traits or ideas.

More Useful Guidance

Weights are relative, not percentages

A weight of 4 does not mean 4%. It means that option has four chances for every one chance given to an option with weight 1. The percentage preview shows you the actual chance before you pick, so it is worth checking the numbers first.

Example: weights of 1, 2 and 7

Suppose A has weight 1, B has weight 2 and C has weight 7. The total is 10, so their chances are 10%, 20% and 70%. You could change the weights to 10, 20 and 70 and the chances would stay the same because the numbers still have the same relationship.

Use weights only when unequal chances are intentional

Weights should represent a rule you can explain, not a way to keep rerunning until a preferred option wins. If every choice should be equal, leave the weights equal and use a normal picker. Before drawing, check for zero or negative values and review the chance preview so a typing error does not create an unexpected advantage.

Weighted Picker vs Raffle Picker

Weighted Random Picker is for general custom weights and can use decimals. Raffle Name Picker is built around whole ticket counts and prize draws. If your rule is 'three tickets means three chances', use the raffle picker. If you are setting your own custom weighting, use the weighted picker.

How the Result Is Chosen

Fair selection

The tool follows the weights you enter. A bigger weight deliberately means a bigger chance, so unequal odds should always be intentional.

Privacy

Your options and weights stay on the device while you use the picker.

Common Questions

Do the weights need to add up to 100?

No. The tool converts the weights into percentages automatically.

Can I use decimal weights?

Yes. You can use positive decimal weights such as 0.5, 1.5 or 2.75.

What if every option has the same weight?

Then every option has the same chance of being picked.

How is this different from Raffle Name Picker?

Weighted Random Picker lets you enter custom weights. Raffle Name Picker is specifically built around whole ticket counts.

What does a weight of 2 mean?

An option with weight 2 has twice the chance of an option with weight 1, as long as the other settings stay the same.

Can I change the weights and pick again?

Yes. Change the values, check the new percentages and run another pick.
